Two More New Heroes - Is the Original Cast Safe?
As the second season of the highly-watched series Heroes approaches, bits and pieces of news are already proliferating about the actors and actresses who will be part of the much awaited next installment. The cast has definitely grown, and the latest additions are Shalim Ortiz and Dania Ramirez. Ortiz will be playing an illegal immigrant who makes his way into the United States with his sister, played by Ramirez. However, news about their possible powers were not announced yet, and so is the level of prominence in the series. Counting them all, the regular casts consists of around ten members. Fans are worried--how safe are season one's regulars are on Heroes?
As Heroes' first season started out, creator Tim Kring announced his plans of starting every season with a new set of Heroes involved in their own adventure, an idea that wasn't so fan-friendly. As the series progressed and gained popularity, however, Kring changed thought twice and said that he was sticking with the original first season group, which was fine as far as the cast and fans were concerned.
It is expected, also that a lot of new characters may be short-lived and will contribute very little to the over all plot. For example, Hiro's love interest was from Japan, thus it was likely that he would lose her one way or another despite his ability to bring her forward in time. It just adds to the drama factor of the series.
Characters like the two new cheerleaders were probably added as aesthetics, whereas David Anders' character will surely play a major part in the season's arc.
During this crucial point in time, new casting notices shouldn't be seen as a threat for all the other "veteran" Heroes. It's not like they're going to be kicked out or killed off. Oftentimes these newly cast characters have a very short life span in the series and will appear for less than a season.
At the kickoff for the world tour of Heroes, Kring told a group of photographers that just because an actor was touring along with the rest of the gang, his character would live on to see the succeeding seasons. The tour is intended to promote season one, so fans should expect the complete cast to be on the tour.
